Chess-Gaming Space

Law Firm Office

The design of this case is inspired by the origin of the Chinese name of Guangdong Win Door Law Firm, the philosophy of Taoism indicating Tao that can be described is hardly universal while names that can be named can never be eternal. It is just like a game of chess where no matter how far chess pieces go in length and broadness, they can never go out of the frame lined by the strict laws and regulations.

Guangdong Win Door Law Firm, located in the core area of CBD in Dongguan, is surrounded by a mixture of balance and chess-gaming competition between the business tenseness brought by the prosperous north-west high-rise blocks and the leisure vitality from the south-east green ecological park.

The reception lobby depicts the image of a chessboard with a stainless-steel ceiling and strip lights in a vertical-horizontal matrix. The space is magnified from bottom to top in a streamline of imperatorial horizontal expansion through the stainless-steel floor and mirror-faced wall. A strong visual impact of solid cultural deposits overflows under the calm atmosphere when the surrounding cold stainless steel meets the original grain and raw texture of marble.

The passage leads to the leisure space where the ceiling is in a grid system of spliced longitudinal aluminum sheets, and the wall on one side is replaced by massive gridding showcases. The design of the showcases works in concert with the orderliness of the lobby and conference room and brings a sense of depth to the leisure space. The collision between highly-saturated red and blue represents the mixture of prudence and vitality as well as the co-existence of competition and cooperation.

The extension cords of the lobby lighting spread into the conference space, interlacing the stretch ceiling and going with black-and-white circular lamps, which delivers a further expression of rationality and orderliness in the chess game. The blue emery art glass walls echo with the blue patterns in the carpet, overturning the stereotype of the conference space while meeting different space needs for conferences through free combination and disassembly.

The design of the Chess-Gaming Space was realized using blue resin glass, stainless steel, natural gray stone, white ceramic paint, smooth stainless steel plate, and a slim lighting system. The space spans 1600 square meters, with dimensions of approximately Width 41700 mm x Depth 392600 mm x Height 3000 mm. The design team members include Designing Director Tacco Lee, Assistant Designers Brandon Lau, Echo Wong, and Zhilei Lam.

This design was awarded Bronze in the A' Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design Award in 2021.
